This is a high power custom built vTA-120 amp that I had modified by the builder ( tubes4HIFI.com). It ia a step up in power from the Dynaco st70. But with more powerful transformers ,A better circuit board , more capacitors etc. It was built using all new parts It is about 18 months old, and has seen very little use: it is virtually new. Im sellling because I m downsizing and I dont have room for 3 amps, so 2 must go. This amp is 60 watts per channel, has 4 ohm and 8 ohm speaker terminals, and uses KT88 or 6550. It does not have the switch or circuitry to change from Triode to Pentode mode, the ugly unreliable quad can cap has been eliminated ,and it has 2 parallel wired rectifier tubes. This cuts the Custom impedance by 50% compared to a single rectifier, significantly increases B+ voltage to the tube plate, boosts power and makes the amp more dynamic and responsive; you wont detect any rectifier “sag”!! Also running 2 parallel rectifiers doubles the DC current available, and will make your rectifiers last forsver! It can use 274b. Gz34 or 5V4G rectifiers. But to get the full benefits. The rectifiers must be very closely matched. However. This is slmost never an issue when using new tubes. But can become problem if they wear unevenly,as 1 tube will handle too much of the load The amplifier is a massive bargain. Not only is it virtually new , But I am including 2, yes 2!! Full sets of tubes 2 new Linlai 274b tubes 2 Telefunken Black Diamond GZ34s 4 New Mullard KT88s 4 New JJ 6550s 3 Strong close matched Sylvsnia (labeled Balwin) 12AU7 tubes 3 strong Sylvania 5963 Gold brands And a free gift 1 NOS GE JG-6414 Try this unusual tube as the middle of the 3 small preamp tubes. V2 positiion. Do mot use it in v1 or V3; these are phase inverters and have little effect on sound quality. I tested it and it made a huge improvement when it replaced the tube in the center (v2) This tube can SOMETIMES substutute for a 12AU7 type. It is a ruggedized version of 12AU7 , it is beefy , 3 mica tube. It has 2 limitations 1. It draws twice the current of a 12AU7 2. It has a gain factor of 42 While the 12AU7 has a gain of 18-21. However , I was able to use it relatively safely during to an old tube head trick. When Ibought mypreamp V back in 2003, it came 2003. It came with 3 junk 12AX7 “no name” tubes. I replaced them with 3 5751 Sylvania 3 mica gold brand gold pin tubes. Many tube heads do this partly because the sylvania tubes super high quality andlsst almost forever, butthry also minimize noise being sent to thr power amp because theyhave sgsin of 70, compared to gain of 100 in 12AX7.,so yhe signal exiting my preamp was reduced by 30.%. So putting the 6414 in the v2 position is ok, the power transformer can handle adding 1 of the6414, but not 2 or 3. So keep that on mind, sometimes they are ok, sometimes they are i compatible.
